Students undergo training on Naga traditional lifestyle and crafts
DIMAPUR — A four-day summer workshop on Naga traditional lifestyle and crafts for age group from 9-15 years titled ‘Rooted’ and organised by Heirloom Naga Centre got underway at its centre in Sovima village under Chümoukedima district on Tuesday.
The activities of workshop would include jewellery-making, bamboo basket weaving, loin loom weaving, Naga cuisine and Naga motif painting.
The programme coordinator, Kevi Kevichusa, told Eastern Mirror that the aim of the workshop was to take children back to roots and introducing a way of life of what their ancestors did. She expressed hope that the event would not only be a workshop but evolve into movement.
She informed that the activities at the workshop are not exhaustive but would include basics that are representatives of the Naga cultural heritage such as Naga loin loom, Naga cooking, bamboo mat weaving, Naga motif paintings in mugs and arts and jewellery-making.
Kevichusa also informed that 11 students including nine girls and two boys from age 8-15 years have registered and participating in the workshop.
The trainers for loin loom and bamboo mat weaving are Zuben Murry, jewellery designer, and Akup Buchem.
The director of Heirloom Naga Centre, Nathan Zeliang, said that all the materials and accessories required for the workshop are being provided by the organizers and added that the finished products made by the students would be given away to them.
Meanwhile, the student participants have expressed their excitement to be part of the four-day workshop.
