(EM Images)[/caption] Dimapur, May 19 (EMN): A day seminar on career guidance was conducted at Veterinary Council Hall at Veterinary colony in Dimapur on Saturday. The seminar was organised by the Veterinary Colony Council and Veterinary Colony Youth Organisation for the student of the colony. A team from a Human Resource Development agency known by its name The People Channel (TPC) were invited as resource persons. The agency, with a theme “The right channel to a myriads of opportunities,” was established in 2005. The team has been training and recruiting candidates from the Northeast as sole recruiters representing national and international companies. During the seminar, the managing director of TPC, Rozelle Mero, was the main resource person. She spoke on differences between a job and a career. Stating that a job is a temporary employment and a career is a 40 to 50 years employment, she described various ways to start a career by doing various job no matter how small it is. “Dignity of labour starts from a small thing,” she exerted supporting her statement. She visualised the students by showing various forms of job they can avail themselves with before they start their career. “One should have the thirst for exposure as every experience you get matters a lot.” Mero disagreed with the present educational system that is prevalent in Nagaland because it does not help the students to be creative. “It only allows the teachers to speak but doesn’t allow the students to stand up and speak out. We need an educational system where a student can stand up, raise questions to the teachers so that the teachers as well as the students can keep updated,” she asserted. Mero suggested ways on how to promote tourism in Nagaland stating that tourism can bring out and preserve art and culture of the Nagas. She presumed that village tourism has a higher capacity to promote tourism rather than depending only on Hornbill Festival for it. She also suggested how one can engage in organic farming through niche marketing. The importance of relationships between parents and children in career building was also evinced during the seminar. Mero recommended that keeping in touch and sharing experiences with one another will expand ideas, creativity, and knowledge in building career. Also, centre head, Jacob Krocha; hospitality trainer, Kekro Mero; and client manager, Aienla jamir of TPC shared the basic approach towards career guidance through their experiences.
