Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): A total of 15 students from Nagaland participated at the National Yoga Olympiad 2019 organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in New Delhi. The competition was held from June 18-20 at NCERT campus, New Delhi, on the theme ‘Yoga for health and harmony.’

NCERT under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) organised the National Yoga Olympiad to develop emotional and mental health in children through yogic activities. It also aims at developing a healthy habit, life style and human values in them.

The participants were Adwin P Sajeev from St. John’s High School Diphupar-B in Dimapur; Neha Khemprai, Abbay Bardhan, Anusree Roy Chowdhury, Sweta Singh, Saidul Alam Tapadar from Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Sandhya Gupta, Md. Nehal from Zakiesato Memorial Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Watimongla from Jubilee Memorial School, Chungtia in Mokokchung; Diya Chanda, Neloshe Yepthomi from Dayanand Vidya Niketan, Dimapur; Sanjana Sharma and Sharif Ahamed from St. Francis School, Tizit in Mon; Shikna and A Yongtok Konyak from Government Higher Secondary School, Aboi in Mon. Sajal Roy and Paraminder Kaur from Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, were the teacher-guides who accompanied the team to National Yoga Olympiad.

In an update, Johny Abraham, headmaster of St. John’s High School, Diphupar – B, stated that Shatkarma/ Kriya (cleansing process), Asanas, Pranayama, Dhyana (meditation), Bandha and Mudra were embodied into Yoga Olympiad 2019.

Students from 29 states of India participated in the Yoga Olympiad. They were given lectures on yoga and books demonstrating various yoga poses (asanas) were also distributed to them. There were state-wise competitions and the participants from different states were asked to demonstrate their yoga skills on stage. They were awarded prizes according to their performance. Certificates were issued to all the participants.

Apart from competitions and discussions, students were taken to different historical sites and places of national importance in New Delhi as part of the event.
