DIMAPUR — In a noble gesture, the Students’ Council of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, St. Joseph’s College (A) Men’s Hostel (SJCMH) and Jesus Youth SJC (A), undertook a voluntary work at Phesama landslide site on Wednesday.
An update from the college stated that the programme began at 10:30 am with a formal briefing by Kakito K Awomi, president of students’ council, who articulated both the practical and symbolic objectives of the effort. He emphasised that the drive sought not only to rehabilitate the footpath damaged by persistent landslides but also to serve as a peaceful means and made appeal to authorities and agencies accountable for the chronic road hazards.
“We want to confront the reality at the grassroots, to bear witness to what is truly occurring and to ensure those responsible understand the sustained impact these conditions have had on our college and community,” Awomi said.

The work began with a prayer led by the vice president of the students’ council. It added that officials of NHIDCL were also present at the site.
It stated that a total of 410 student volunteers diligently cleared debris and undertook essential repairs to make the passage safer for pedestrians and local residents spanning over three hours.
The president, in his closing remarks, extended appreciation to all the participants, expressing confidence that their collective effort would resonate beyond the day’s labour.
“I trust that our work will not be in vain and that our voices will reach the ears of those in a position to effect lasting change,” he added.
