Students attending an awareness programme on teenage pregnancy in Longleng town on Saturday.

DIMAPUR — Longleng district administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), in collaboration with Nagaland Aids Control Society (NSACS), conduct an awareness programme on prevention of teenage pregnancy on Saturday at Lempong convention hall in Longleng town.

An update from the district administration stated that with DSRC counselor at District Hospital, Longleng, Lithei Phom, was the resource person.

It stated that Lithei Phom spoke on ‘Consequences- physiologically, psychologically and socially prevention-health education, life skill education at school, home and church. She has attributed lack of inadequate sex education as the main reason for teenage pregnancy.

In conclusion, she stated that it is hard to raise a child when one is still young. In order to prevent teenage pregnancy, she stated that young people should be morally intact and determinate about one’s own future, make positive choice, committed and abstain from sex before marriage.

In her introductory note, the DMC of DHEW, P Phungla Phom, encouraged the students to take such programme seriously and to consider themselves as privileged and fortunate to be part of the programme.

The SFL of DHEW, Afen Phom, chaired the programme, while Chingkhong, assistant women pastor of Longleng Town Baptist Church, said the invocation.

Report stated that students from various schools in Longleng town from classes 9 to 12 attended the awareness programme.
