Students from Peren win Red Ribbon quiz contest

DIMAPUR — Yintolungbe Rangkau and Ihungzeule of Baptist Higher Secondary School in Peren were declared winners of the state-level youth fest Red Ribbon quiz competition held on Friday at 2K Hotel in Kohima. The quiz competition was organised by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) under the aegis of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).

An update from NSACS stated that the winners were awarded cash prize of INR 10,000 along with certificates and trophy. They would also represent the state at the regional-level Red Ribbon quiz competition to be held in Guwahati.

It stated that Aldrin Lerthankhum Zote and Cheliso U Khutsoh of Mezhur Higher Secondary School in Kohima won the second position and were awarded cash prize of INR 7,000 along with certificates and trophy, while Mangbo Konyak and Pinlong of Konjong Higher Secondary School from Mon secured the third position and were awarded cash prize of INR 7,000 along with certificates and trophy.

A total of 12 teams from 12 districts of Nagaland, who were winners in their own respective districts, participated in the competition.

It mentioned that the quiz competition was organised for the students from classes 8, 9 and 11 with the aim to provide comprehensive knowledge on HIV/AIDS and STI/ RTI by providing interactive platform for information exchange on issues related to health and well being, to remove social taboos and myths, to discuss reproductive health issues, to provide knowledge on diet and nutrition, sanitation and hygiene, and to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.

During the event, NSACS project director, Dr. Ahu Sekhose, encouraged the students to be the agents of change and be responsible to impart HIV/AIDS information among their peers.

While delivering the key note address, Metevinuo Sakhrie, NSACS joint director (IEC & MS), mentioned that the quiz competition was a part of the youth fest, which is an ongoing event all over India. She encouraged the students to create awareness and have correct and full information about HIV to remain HIV-free.

The programme was moderated by Puthenhenmei, NSACS assistant director of youth affairs.
