Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): Students of ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN) were treated with a talk on ‘Problems and prospects of the Sixth Scheduled of the Indian constitution’ organised by the department of history on February 1 with with Dr. Vulli Dhanaraju, assistant professor, department of history, Assam University, as the guest speaker.
Dr. Vulli has discussed on the historical creation and relevance of the Sixth Schedule. He pointed out that the basic philosophy towards the creation of the Sixth Schedule was to provide autonomy, integration and development of the North eastern states. Initially, according to him, the provision was implemented to address the political aspiration of the Naga people. However, with the refusal of the Nagas to accept the proposed schedule, Article 371(A) was created for the Nagas, he added.
The guest speaker also highlighted on the importance of Citizenship Amendment Bill and its impact on the North eastern states. Besides, he also donated two books to ICFAI library.
The talk was chaired by Dr. Resenmenla Longchar, head of the department, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Khrienuo.
