Students continue cleaning Khonoma village

Members of Khonoma Students' Union picking up waste in Khonoma village during the monthly cleanliness drive of the union.

Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): The Khonoma Students' Union (KSU) organised its monthly cleanliness drive for February on the 22nd of the month by cleaning Khonoma village.

An update from the union informed that students of class 3 and above from all the high schools and primary schools in the village participated in the drive during the morning while executives of the student body and students of class 9 and 10 from three high schools in the village “continued the drive, picking up plastic covers, rags and other waste materials lying on the roadside, picnic spots and various places  outskirts of the village and the waste materials were safely disposed”.

The union in collaboration with all the schools within the village have been undertaking cleanliness drive once a month in Khonoma village which was declared a green practice village on June 5 2019.

The update from the union stated that “being the first green village of Asia, cleanliness and keeping their surrounding clean and green is of fundamental importance”. The union has also reminded those visiting Khonoma village that single-use plastic has been banned within the village jurisdiction, and also not to litter waste but make use of trash bins.
