DIMAPUR — A seminar on “Exploring Psychological Counselling and Psychometric Tests” was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Kohima Science College (Autonomous) Jotsoma (KSCJ) in collaboration with Assam Downtown University, Guwahati, at the college’s conference hall on Thursday.
According to an update, the seminar was attended by all BSc classes, with two representatives from each class, along with one representative from every MSc class.
The resource person, Namira Ahmed, a psychological counsellor, conducted an interactive session aimed at helping students understand various aspects of mental health.
The session began with a visual exercise where students were asked questions based on the representation of a psychologically disturbed person, encouraging them to reflect on emotional and psychological well-being.
During the interaction, students were also asked to identify the challenges faced by youth in Nagaland today. Participants highlighted issues such as unemployment, procrastination, and phone addiction, among other modern-day concerns affecting students.
Ahmed further elaborated on topics including mental health, stress, and anxiety, while also discussing practical strategies for managing these challenges.
She also introduced students to effective study methods such as the Pomodoro technique, mind mapping, the Feynman technique, the blurting method, and active recall.
Earlier, the programme began with an introduction of the resource person by Dr. Lilongchem Thyug.
The session concluded with the distribution of a survey assessing the students’ mental state and a symbolic activity where participants burst balloons they had inflated themselves, representing the release of built-up stress.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the general secretary of the college.
