Kohima, Jan. 9 (EMN): Minister of higher and technical education, Temjen Imna Along, has encouraged students to rediscover their ability to soar higher and excel in life instead of waiting for opportunities to come at their doorsteps.
Imna Along stated this at the inaugural session of the 72nd Japukong Students’ Conference (JSC) which got underway in Yajang C village under Mokokchung district on January 8 on the theme “Progress and advancement.” He also encouraged the students to make good use of every special gifts and talents instead of waiting for opportunities to come at their doorsteps.
“A time has come to rediscover ourselves in our ability to soar higher and excel in life by giving our best in whatever we do so as to inspire and impact other people’s lives as well,” he said.
While stating that student’s life is the most interesting phase in a person’s life, the minister asserted that the most valued qualities of life such as humility, kindness and politeness would a long way in shaping and moulding a person to become refined human being.
“Tomorrow belongs to those who have the ability to rediscover oneself; coupled with a disciplined mind and a positive outlook on life,” said the minister.
While congratulating the newly elected office bearers, Imna Along urged them to become agents of change and become a living example for others to emulate.
He also urged NGOs from Japukong area to refrain from back biting or politicising every issue but to be more forgiving in nature, maintain peace and tranquillity among all so as to progress further in life.
Earlier at the programme, T Wapang Jamir, pastor of Yajang ‘C’ Baptist Church, invoked God’s blessings and chairman of Yajang ‘C’ village council delivered the welcome speech. Short speeches were also delivered by Chubawati Longchar, president of Ao Senden; Alapong Jamir, president of Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang; and Imlisunep, president of Tzurangkong Kaketshir Mungdang.
A special song was presented by Aonokpu students’ union. Rev. Dr. Toshi Langu, Frontline ministries, was the main speaker on the topic ‘Transformation through self discovery.’
