Students asked to contribute to society

Dimapur, Jan. 18 (EMN): Nagaland lone Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye has urged upon the students to be an asset and contribute to the society in the greater interest of humanity. Speaking at the 70th general conference of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) coinciding with the golden jubilee celebration of Kütsapo Students’ Union (KSU) at Kutsapo under Phek district, Kenye stressed on the need to retrospect and look into the lifestyle, culture, traditional values, God given talents and virtues. “We have human values to contribute to the international communities,” he said adding that Nagas can show to the world of its aged old cultures and traditions and at the same time extend and teach the neighbours and people in other parts of the world. Referring to advancement of technology, he said sometime we are little too fast in copying others without differentiating the good along with modernity, westernization, civilization and advancement. In this, he said it is time for the Nagas to be careful and filter and choice of what is good and leave out the rest. Stressing on the need to adopt honesty, dedication and hard work, he called upon the students to revisit the past and be proud of the rich culture and tradition of Nagas. He also told the students to be much wiser and mature and contribute more to the Naga society. Vevo Sapu, retired director art and culture, said “We should be proud of who we are. Naga culture has beautifully been crafted and woven into colourful patterns giving us a unique identity than the rest of the other parts of the country.” Stating that God has given different talents and abilities to different people to use His glory, he has urged to “Spread the message of love and peace through your songs and dance sharing the solidarity of our people.” He challenged the students to come and unite together through culture, encourage one another, build confidence and achieve greater height. President of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) Kekhwengulo Lea also exhorted the gathering while the president of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Kesosul Christopher Ltu also greeted the gathering. CSU president Dode Nakro delivered presidential address. COC co-convenor Vevoyi D Vadeo chaired the function, while the welcome address was delivered by COC convenor Mutsikhoyo Yhobu.
