Nokchasashi Kichu addressing the students during the 50th
anniversary celebration of Chungtia Students' Union Kohima on Saturday.
- KOHIMA — Expounding that today’s fast-pace technology
has eclipsed the esteemed age-old virtues of the forefathers, students were
told to reconnect with their roots and reintegrate those values in their daily
lives and create a better future for generations to come.
- This was stated by Nokchasashi Kichu, additional secretary
to the government of Nagaland, during the 50th anniversary celebration of the
Chungtia Students' Union Kohima (CSUK) held at State Academy Hall in Kohima on
Saturday on the theme "Yayim Shilu (returning to its original
state)."
- Speaking on the theme as the special guest, Kichu emphasised
the need to introspect the glorious achievements made by the past generations.
He stated that reconnecting with their ancestral roots, values and principles
would allow them to reflect on the foundation of who they are.
- He reminded how the forefathers held deep respect for
traditions, customs stating that their lives were grounded in moral values such
as respect, integrity, humility, and responsibility.

- “The way they communicated, interacted with each other and
embraced their communities was a reflection of the strong ethical codes they
followed, and these values formed the backbone of our community,” he reminded.
- He, however, expressed that there have been a shift with the
passage of time as the age-old values have started to fade into the background
in today’s fast-paced technology-driven world. He lamented that the emphasis on
respect, personal responsibility and community cohesion has weakened and that
people today are digressing from the core principles that once held the
community together.
- He, therefore, urged the students to look back and reflect
on the wisdom of their ancestors, reconnect with their roots and reintegrate
those values into daily lives by “reawakening the respect for traditions,
reinvigorating moral compass and honour the legacy of forefathers and create a
better future for generations to come.”
- During the programme, speeches and words of encouragements
were also shared by I Temsü Kichu, the first president of CSUK; president of
KSUK, Rongsenlemba Kichu; president of Ongpangkong Students’ Union, Tinumayang
