DIMAPUR — Elaborating that violence has no place in this modern era, MLA and chairman of Noklak district planning and development board (DPDB), P Longong, called upon the students to remove all fear psychosis and strive to live in peace and prosperity.
Longon stated this during the 61st assembly-cum-special session of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) on January 17 at Thoktsur, KSU special session hall in Longsingking village held on the theme “Learn and lead.” Speaking at the event, the special guest stated that he was blessed with lots of opportunities to serve Khiamniungan people in different capacities as student leader, tribe leader and as elected representative for the fourth times.
He has appreciated MLA Benei M Lamthiu for his commitment to serve the people and urged the public to extend support and cooperation. He also encouraged the Lamthiu to work hard in order to uplift the Khiamniungan community.
Longon also assured that together with Lamthiu, they would work to fulfill the long needs of Longsingking village. In this regard, he called upon the gathering to forget and forgive the bitter past and reconcile for a better society.
The MLA also spoke about the importance of trees to preserved flora and fauna, stated a DIPR report.
The guest of honour, MLA Benei M Lamthiu, lauded the good example shown by the people of Longsingking village and stated that ‘where there is unity, there is peace, purpose and development.’
“Though it is a small community, your unity has shown a certain good example to the rest of Khiamniungan and nothing is impossible if we work in unity,” he maintained.
He also encouraged the students to be more dedicated, disciplined and work hard with determination to achieve their goals. While assuring his commitment to fulfill their grievances, he urged the gathering to cooperate with the representative and the government.
Earlier, the president of Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Noklak Shangchiu, unveiled the monolith in commemoration of its 61st federal assembly-cum-special session and was dedicated by Haimong, pastor of Peshu Baptist Doathi.
Other highlights of the programme included short speeches by president of KTC, welcome address by chairman of Thoktsur village council and felicitation by KSU education secretary.
SDO (Civil) of Thonoknyu and many party workers attended the special session.
