EMN Dimapur, March 14 In view of prevailing State economic scenario contributed through business and entrepreneurship, a joint get-together-cum-consultation between Naga Students’ Federation, Angami Students’ Union and Naga Business Association Kohima was held at Hotel Eastgate on March 11 last. During the marathon discussion, the meeting felt that Nagas should sincerely and seriously take up business ventures as profession as it plays the most vital role towards building economy of Nagas. The meeting also asserted that Nagas be it consumers or business dealers should encourage each other as economy has been drained out from the State. Further, deliberating on the role played by the businessmen and entrepreneurs towards building state economy, the meeting discussed that about 80 percent of market transaction has been circulated outside the State. The meeting therefore appealed to the Naga public to uplift and encourage one another. The meeting also found that about 80 percent registered business establishments out of total 3600 shops under Kohima Municipal Office is in local name, however, in reality only 20 percent is genuinely owned by the Nagas. The three bodies therefore seriously discussed to hammer out these practices and appealed to Nagas to discourage such trend which will ultimately be a threat to future generation. While viewing that with this trend the State is losing revenue as Nagas were exempted income tax, the meeting said the government also needs to seriously ponder upon which and what is owned and run by the local Nagas. The meeting also appealed to the commercial house owners to encourage the local Nagas while leasing out their houses. During the meeting, the student bodies and Naga business community decided to work hand in hand for the welfare and the upliftment of the Naga society. NBAK Convenor Atou Liezietsu in a release said the meeting was attended by officials of NSF, ASU and NBAK besides other senior students and social work activists and mentioned that the NBAK is formed purely for the genuine Naga businessmen and entrepreneurs for the welfare and the upliftment of the society.
