DIMAPUR — Shamator Town Students’ Union (STSU) and Chessore Town Students’ Union (CTSU) have supported the 14-day ultimatum submitted to the Directorate of School Education by the Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako, the apex body of the Yimkhiung student community, demanding for deployment of adequate teachers in all government schools within its jurisdiction.

A press release issued by STSU claimed that government schools falling within its jurisdiction have been facing shortage of teachers for a long time which jeopardised the career of the students resulting in large number of dropouts. STSU has urged the department to fulfill the genuine demands of YAA failing which it cautioned that the union would have no option but to totally restrict the admission process of all the government school within its jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, all the head of government schools are informed to kept admission process on halt until the demands are fulfilled.

In another statement, CTSU stated that YAA had already submitted a representation to the department demanding early deployment of teachers on June 30, 2023, followed by repeated reminders. It resented the apathy of the concerned department towards the student community and termed as abject show of contempt to the freedom of education enshrined in the Indian constitution.

The union expressed hope that the concerned department would address the genuine demand of the YAA at the earliest. While reiterating its unwavering support to YAA, the union added that it would not allow any government school within its jurisdiction to initiate admission processes until and unless the department fulfils the demand of the YAA.
