Chuchuyimlang (Mokokchung), Jan. 10 (EMN): Minister of PWD (Housing and Mechanical) Tongpang Ozukum on Tuesday opined that building a strong economy is important for the growth of society.
The minister said a strong economy can be built by promoting entrepreneurs and providing loans; however, he lamented that banks had a ‘big trust deficit’ with the Naga people.
The minister was speaking as special guest on the second-day of the Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM) platinum jubilee celebration cum 33rd Sports Meet, which began on the theme, “Terangrang Lensar,” (Dynamic Pioneers) at Chuchuyimlang village on January 9 evening.
To mitigate this issue, he said the LKM can play a major role by reviving the Langpangkong Trading Co-operative Society as a non-banking financial company, which would provide loans to the entrepreneurs to build a robust economy.
According to the minister, the Langpangkong Trading Co-operative Society was established in 1949 on a share-holding system, which was a visionary project to let the Langpangkong range move forward.
Stating that Langpangkong range is unique as its encompasses communities from Ao, Phom and Chang tribes, he called upon the people of Langkongpang to forgive one another and re-strengthen unity in the range and accord due honours to the pioneers of LKM as it celebrates 75 years of existence.
A Chuba Ozukum, consultant, department of Law and Justice, also urged the students to be one step ahead of others in their respective fields as the world today demands only excellence.
Saying that traditionalist, racialist and separatist attitudes will not let the society forward, he urged the student community to become a rationalist group to go forward.
Nungdokyanger Ao, President AKM, also urged students to serve the society and life by discovering one’s innate talents.
N Dape Phom, President Phom Students’ Conference; Limatongzuk Jamir, President OKM; and Marsanen Imsong, President, Langpangkong Mungdang also spoke at the event.
Earlier, Tongpang Ozukum released the jubilee souvenir and gave away the L Pangersowa Jamir Trust Award for academic excellence and LL Yaden Meritorious Scholarship to the award recipients.
