The Assam government on Monday said adequate security measures had been taken at the “B Sector” of the disputed border with Nagaland to thwart skirmishes. Replying to a query from legislator A Tirkey, the state’s Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain told the Assembly on the first day of the Winter Session that nine police posts had been set up and as many SSB companies deployed for the maintenance of peace and tranquility.
He was replying on behalf of Home Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is also the Chief Minister.
“The personnel have been patrolling the areas round the clock to thwart any untoward incidents. The people from the affected villages such as No 2 Chainpur, No 1 Kempur, Chetia Gaon, Roman Bosti,
Ratanpur, Rajaphukhuri etc, have been harvesting with the help of the SSB jawans,” Hussain said.
“For the maintenance of friendly relations between the Adivasis and the Nagas, meetings at the level of border magistrates are also being held,” he said.
The Minister also informed the House about the Chief Minister level and Chief Secretary level meetings with the neighbouring state.
Replying to another query about alleged biased attitude of the CRPF and the SSB jawans, Hussain said the government had not received any such complaint as yet.
He said the 718 affected families were offered Rs.50000 each by the state government for rehabilitation. While stating that 245 families were still lodged at the relief camps, he said efforts were being made for their rehabilitation.
