Imphal, Jan. 3 (EMN): The complete shut-down strike called by teachers’ association of the state run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) affected the functioning of the hospital including out-patient department (OPD) and new admission in Imphal on January 3.
In view of the shut down strike, many had to rush to other healthcare centres.
JNIMS teachers’ body called the strike after the authorities concerned failed to give any positive response to their long standing demands. The demands of the association according to the news reports included absorption of tenure of senior residents (SR)/ tutors demonstrators; implementation of time scale promotion scheme for CMOs (chief medical officers) as per RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences); CMOs time scale promotion scheme; implementation of career advancement scheme for MBBS and diploma SRs; implementation of the old pension scheme for MHS doctors who joined regular service before January 1, 2005; and implementation of the time scale promotion scheme for all teaching staff of JNIMS.
In another meeting held on Thursday following a meeting invitation by the chief minister, the association decided to temporarily suspend the agitation from 6 am of January 4 till January 6. They also decided to hold a general body meeting of the association at 2 pm on January 6 to discuss the outcome of the meeting with the state chief minister and further course of action. The agitation started since the first week of December last year.
