Strengthening disability inclusion in disaster management

Dimapur, July 17 (EMN): Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) organises a two-day workshop on ‘Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management’ (DIDRM) on July 14 and 15.

The resource person was Dr. Shivani Gupta, technical advisor of Inclusion (community-based inclusive development initiative), CBM, an update from SCPD stated.

Participants included NSDMA and SDRF team members, NGO and organisations working with children, women and elderly and organisations of persons with disabilities.

Day one of the workshop included sessions on ‘Understanding disability and inter-sectionality,’ ‘Barriers faced by persons with disabilities,’ ‘Diverse requirements of different disability groups,’ and ‘Legislative mandates for disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction (DIDRR).’

Session on day two focused on ‘Community mapping and strength and weakness analyses,’ ‘Stakeholder analyses,’ ‘Developing a disability-inclusive disaster management plan,’ ‘Feedback of groups,’ and ‘Data collection and inclusive budgeting.’

It mentioned that the two-day workshop was part of the project being carried out by the office of the State Disability Commissioner to ‘Strengthen disability inclusion in disaster management in Nagaland.’
