Kohima/Mokokchung, May 7 (EMN): Following government’s notification to permit inter-district movement of stranded people due to the lockdown, a total of 72 people from Phek, mostly labourers and daily wage earners, were sent to their respective districts on May 7.
Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Sachin Jaiswal confirmed this to Eastern Mirror on Thursday. He added that arrangement has been made for transportation of 15-20 people of Mon district from Kohima, Dimapur and Phek districts on May 8.
Since Nagaland has been declared ‘green zone’ and also as per the information from the chief secretary, he stated that those coming from within the state do not need to be quarantined compulsorily.
While many people from Phek district have not applied to go back to their own state, he stated that around 20-25 people have applied and are still awaiting
directions.
“We are still compiling the data. We will decided as and when direction comes from the state government,” he replied when asked when the migrant workers from other states would be allowed to go to their respective states.
He also informed that they have been giving ration supply to the needy people from the district headquarters and also ration reliefs are given to the villagers according to the list given the village council and wards, which is still going on.
Meanwhile, the first batch of indigenous Nagas, stranded in Mokokchung due to Covid-19 lockdown, started their journey back to their home district from NST Station at Mokokchung on May 7.
Three buses to Mon, one bus to Dimapur and another bus to Tuensang were sent off from Mokokchung to their respective destinations on may 7. Before boarding the buses, all passengers were screened by medical staff and buses were sanitised by MMC sanitation workers at the NST complex.
Pastors of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) reached the NST station and prayed for the passengers for their safe journey. The pastor along with the church workers also handed over lunch packages to all the passengers.
