IMPHAL — A storm accompanied by rain swept through various parts of Manipur on Wednesday, causing damage to houses and other structures.

Power supply lines were also affected in some parts of the state. Fortunately, no human casualties were reported in the storm, which wreaked havoc in many locations.

The roofing sheets of many dwelling houses, including barns (grain stores), were damaged at Dolang Chiru village under Noney district due to the strong winds that hit the area around 2:30 pm, sources said. Many horticulture farms were also damaged. At Waithou area in Thoubal district, the roofs of nearly 10 houses were reportedly blown away.

It also damaged a number of houses and structures at Wangoi in Imphal West district and Nambol Lourembam, Kha-Sanjenbam, Eshok, and Waheng-Khuman in Bishnupur district.

There were also reports of trees being uprooted between Bishnupur and Ningthoukhong sectors along the Tiddim road stretch. Though there are no reports of any human casualties, the branches of the uprooted trees disrupted normal traffic on Tiddim for some time.

In a similar storm on April 17th, many houses and other structures at Thamnapokpi and Sabungkhok Khunou villages were damaged.
