Stone-pulling ceremony marks ASU’s new office

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, FEBRUARY 28

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Angami Students’ Union (ASU), the apex student body of the Angami community, organised a traditional stone pulling ceremony followed by erection of monolith for the proposed ASU branch office at Chümoukedima today.
Over 500 hundred student volunteers from the four Angami regions all dressed in traditional attire took part in the stone pulling ceremony which began from Chümoukedima police gate to the proposed ASU office site adjacent to Chümoukedima Local Ground. The event was also attended by public leaders and elders from the Angami frontal organisations representing Angami Public Organisation (APO), Angami Gazetted Officers’ Krotho, Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho, Angami Youth Organisation, Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), Chümoukedima Village Council and Village Council members from the Chakhroma Angami villages.It was a significant day for the Angami Students’ Union as the erection of the monolith marked the fulfilment of the long desired dream of the student body to set up its branch office in Dimapur district. Mention be made that the proposed site of the ASU branch office has been generously donated by nine clans of Chümoukedima village who are the traditional land owners.
The traditional stone pulling ceremony also came as a rich experience for many youngsters as majority of them took part in such an event for the first time. Female student representatives dressed in traditional attire also took part in the event by way of serving the male volunteers, while some of them walked in queue on the sidelines from starting till the last.
For almost an hour, the entire National Highway was blocked and in the process created inconvenience to the public. However, the stone pulling programme also served as an enriching experience for the people of Chümoukedima and travellers who turned out in good number to witness the event.
The customary incantation of the monolith was pronounced by Viselie Shüya, while the dedication was done by Rev Lhouzoviu Shüya. The stone pulling ceremony was followed by a short programme at Chümoukedima Village Council Hall.
Speaking at the function, APO advisor Keneingunyü Sekhose thanked the Chümoukedima village for their generosity in donating the said plot, while he also urged the present and the upcoming Angami student leaders to make good use of the branch office in the near future. “Making good use of the office towards the welfare of the student community is the best way to repay the generosity of the land donors,” Sekhose said.
CPO president Beituo Hama while considering the laying of the monolith as a milestone of the Angami student community, also urged the students to make the best of the office towards their welfare.
Chümoukedima Village Council chairman Razouvotuo Chatsu in his address lauded the far sighted vision of the Angami student body to set up its branch office in Dimapur district. To this, he also appealed the public and all the Angami frontal organisations to support and work cohesively with the student body in its vision to uplift the student community.
ASU president Zakie Khate who also spoke at the occasion thanked the nine clans of Chümoukedima village for their generosity in donating the said plot.
The programme was chaired by ASU advisor Voto Neikha, while the vote of thanks was tendered by ASU Appropriations Council chairman Khrielievi Chüsi.
