Stone pulling ceremony held after 70 years in Lakhuti

‘Tokhu Emong’ enters 2nd day with entertainment and feasts

The second day of Tokhu Emong celebration at Lakhuti village held Friday at the village ground was marked by stone pulling (monolith) ceremony, cultural song competition and distribution of prizes.
The festival was hosted by Parliamentary Secretary for Women Resource Development and Border Affairs, Thomas Ngullie. Menfolk from the village participated in the ceremony and later erected the monolith in one corner of the village ground.According to villagers, the last stone pulling ceremony was held after a gap of nearly 70 years.
Women and men from eight khels of the village competed in traditional song and rice pounding competitions. The winners of the various competitions were awarded prizes sponsored by the parliamentary secretary.
Thomas in his address to the festive gathering said, God has a programme to prosper Lakhuti village and assured his best to bring all round development to the village. He sought the cooperation of all the villagers to fulfill his vision and also urged the villagers to live a righteous life.
On the occasion of Tokhu Emong, Lakhuti Village Council chairman, Mhathung Humtsoe, urged the villagers to forget and forgive past mistakes and deeds and sought support and cooperation of all villagers for greater benefit of the village. Other special invitees including regional manager, HUDCO, Myinthungo Yanthan also spoke on the occasion. The programme was followed by a grand community feast.
