Stereo Grooves takes a U-turn on its musical journey after discovering its true musical identity with “ASCEND”.
MOKOKCHUNG — After years of exploring diverse rock sounds ranging from indie to the technical precision of Math Rock and the raw energy of Post Hardcore, Mokokchung’s five-piece band Stereo Groove has found its distinctive music with the release of a powerful new single and music video titled “ASCEND”.
The track, which blends alternative rock elements, was officially launched by Imkumniba Kichu, MMC Councilor at Urban Hub Cafe in Mokokchung on June 15.
The single is now available on all major digital streaming platforms, while the official music video can be viewed on Stereo Groove’s YouTube channel.
The members including Along Jamir (vocals), Wapang Walling (guitar), Ayoung Jamir (guitar), Wabang Jamir (bass), and Lima Imsong (drums) shared that after extensive experimentation across multiple genres, the group has finally discovered its true musical identity.
“ASCEND is more than just a song,” the band stated. “It is a story carved out of pressure, doubt, and the quiet battles we don’t always talk about. Every note and every word come from a deeply personal place.”
The track explores themes of overcoming life’s challenges and reflects the band’s own journey of struggle and growth.
Stereo Groove hopes that listeners will not only hear the music but also internalise its empowering message: that no matter how low one falls, it is possible to rise again.
The band expressed their heartfelt gratitude to supporters while emphasising that the release belongs as much to their fans and well-wishers as it does to the musicians themselves.
Hailing from Mokokchung, Stereo Groove has carved a unique space in the music scene with its innovative fusion of Math Rock precision, alternative rock atmosphere, and Post Hardcore intensity.
Known for being ahead of their time, the band is celebrated for its electrifying stage presence and explosive chemistry, often igniting what they call “Shitsü Mode” — a wild, unbridled energy that energises audiences.
Looking ahead, the band plans a “drip release” strategy, dropping one song per month, with the intention of compiling the tracks into an EP or full album at the end of the campaign.
Speaking at the launch event, Imkumniba Kichu praised the band’s achievement, noting that young talents in Mokokchung continue to draw inspiration despite limited government and institutional support.
“Every achievement begins as an idea, which then transforms into creativity, fueled by passion, and ultimately becomes success,” he said. He described the release not merely as a music video launch but as the celebration of a long-cherished dream brought to life.
Kichu highlighted music’s power as a universal language that transcends borders and inspires young minds. He urged budding musicians to think outside the box and pursue originality, stressing that true creators who compose their own material stand on a higher level than those who only perform covers.
He also cautioned young artistes against the pitfalls of sudden popularity and substance use, calling on families and musicians to remain grounded.
Stereo Groove has earned several accolades in recent years including: Runners-up, Inter College Band Competition, RCEMPA; Winner, National State AIDS Control Society Multimedia Campaign, Kohima 2024; Winner, Tzudikong Gospel Beat Contest; Winner, Urban Hub Cafe Contest, Mokokchung 2024; Winner, NIT Ekarikthin, Rockville, Chumoukedima 2025; Winner, Zoomax, Nagaland University, Kohima 2025; Finalist, Hornbill International Contest 2025; Guest performances at Aalo Winter Fest (Arunachal Pradesh, 2024), Majuli Music Festival (Assam, 2024), and Pine Tree Festival (Darjeeling, 2025)
