State’s leaders mourn passing of Yashikala Jamir

Dimapur, Oct. 20 (EMN): Government leaders in Nagaland are mourning the demise of Yashikala Jamir, the wife of former minister and chief secretary NI Jamir. She has been described in tributes as a matriarch of stature and wisdom and a woman of substance who built a home of successful leaders and achievers.
Neiphiu Rio
Member of Lok Sabha Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister TR Zeliang, and Home Minister Y Patton issued separate condolence messages condoling with the demise of Jamir and paying tributes to her work as a worthy wife, mother and homemaker.
In his message of condolence addressed to the bereaved family, Member of Parliament Neiphiu Rio expressed deep sadness at the demise of Jamir he called “our beloved aunty Yashikala Jamir.”
The former chief minister stated in tribute: “Aunty Yashikala was a lady of substance to the core. She was a blessed mother who produced many noteworthy descendants who have contributed immensely to the betterment of Naga society in numerous ways.”
Due to her exemplary nurture and guidance, the message stated, they grew up to become successful personalities and brought pride not only to the family but to the Naga people too.
“On the numerous occasions that we met her, she always welcomed us with a warm smile and an abundance of motherly love, held our hands and patted our backs. She was a loving and caring mother to everybody she met,” Rio stated.
Although she is no more, Rio said to find comfort in the fact that her legacy will continue to inspire Naga women and that she will live on in people’s hearts with fond memories ‘because those who we love dearly never truly leave us.’
“In this hour of great sadness, my wife and family joins me in upholding your entire family in our steadfast prayers. We pray that you find divine peace and comfort in God’s word to overcome the pain and sorrow of losing your beloved mother. May the departed soul rest peacefully for eternity in God’s loving arms,” Rio added.

TR Zeliang
“She was an immensely blessed person gifted with rare talents,” Chief Minister TR Zeliang stated in his condolence message. “Her role as a true Naga homemaker and wife of a pioneering administrator (in the person of late NI Jamir) who rose to become the chief secretary of Nagaland in the late ‘70s and later served the state with distinction as a senior cabinet minister from early ‘80s till mid-‘90s, and as a mother to nine children; all well cared for, nurtured and brought up to what they are today in our society, not only epitomises the very core of her extraordinary personality but truly serves as an inspiration for us all.”
Zeliang called her humble, ‘large hearted’ and caring and a tower of strength especially to her late husband, and the children. Jamir was also very pragmatic and insightful person, the chief minister stated.
“In her death, we have lost a most beloved mother and an individual who embodied the rare virtues of the old school. During this hour of grief and sorrow, I and my family extend our deepest condolences to the children, grandchildren and relatives of late Mrs. Yashikala Jamir and pray to Almighty God to grant them strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

Y Patton
Home Minister Y Patton also issued a message expressing condolences with the demise of Jamir.
‘I, joined by my wife, convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of late Mrs. Yashikala Jamir and pray to Almighty Lord to grant them strength at this hour of grief. We also pray to Almighty Lord to grant peace to the departed soul,’ the message stated.

Funeral service at Longsa, Mokokchung
A funeral service is scheduled to be conducted at 10 AM on Oct. 21 at Longsa village in Mokokchung. This was informed in a note from the family of the deceased
