The officer visited Yonglok police station and the 2nd NAP camp at Yonglok in Longleng district; and a police station at Anaki-C in Mokokchung district, on February 5. Updates from the DIPR on Wednesday stated that the DGP visited said places with a host of police officers from the Longleng, Mokokchung and Kohima establishments. Interacting with police officers, members of nongovernmental organisations and village councils at Yonglok police station, Longkumer was quoted as having said that he was visiting every district, and police stations and outposts to ‘ascertain the functioning of the police force in the grass root level with special focus in the remote border and disputed areas.’ The officer asserted that his primary focus area was border and disputed areas to maintain law and order and to provide peace and security to the people living in these regions, the DIPR stated. ‘At the same time, ensure peace and harmony with neighbours,’ the updates stated. The DGP also responded to issues and grievances raised by village councils and nongovernmental organisations ‘for immediate inauguration of Yonglok police station,’ the DIPR stated. The officer said his visit was to ‘see the infrastructure development, status and strength of the police force, their functioning, grievances and problems.’ Nonetheless, he was said to have assured them that the strength of the police force will be enhanced ‘in accordance with the criterion’ to ensure better functioning of the police establishment in the state. Longkumer informed that the grievances and ‘necessity’ of the police forces will be reported to the government for action at the earliest. Regarding the issue of inaugurating the police station at Yonglok, he said it will be inaugurated shortly. The officer was said to have entrusted the SP Longleng police superintendent and “PPC” to “tie up with VIP for immediate inauguration,” according to the DIPR report. The DGP donated cash “for improvement to meet the urgent requirement” of the 2nd NAP post at Yonglok too, the updates stated. According to the DIPR, Yonglok’s police station was established in the year 2008 but had not been functioning since November 2018 “after all infrastructure development was completed.” Due to an urgent need for a police station in the border area, “it however started functioning without inauguration” since December 5 2018 “despite shortage of NGO under DEF, Longleng,” the government bulletin explained.
