Dimapur, July 28 : Employees of the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank will be joining the nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Union on July 29. The Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Employees' Union (NSCBEU) issued a press release to the local media informing about the event. The union said to have decided during an emergency meeting on July 28 that the employees of said bank institution would also join the strike. The press release stated: "(The organization) resolved that NSCBEU will participate in the proposed all India Bank strike on 29th July 2016 called by United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), subject to withdrawal from proposed strike in the event of sudden call-off at national level by UFBU." The union informed that the strike was being called to seek fulfillment of a number of demands which include opposition to privatization of banks. The motive and demands as listed out by the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank employees in the press release are: opposition to the move of the government to privatize Public Sector Banks; opposition to proposed anti-labour amendments to labour laws and demand for stringent action against willful defaulters in the recovery of ‘NPAs.’ “The participation in the strike is taken in the greater interest of the bank as the demand includes stringent action by the government against the willful defaulters towards recovery of NPAs. In the light of the above, the NSCBEU request our esteemed customers of the bank to bear with the union in the event of the strike on 29.07.2016,” the organization stated.
