Plastic surgeons during the plastic and reconstructive surgery conference in Kohima.


DIMAPUR — The first plastic and reconstructive surgery conference of Nagaland-cum-live surgery workshop was conducted on August 15 and 16 in Kohima.


The conference was organised by the Department of Surgery, Putuonuo Hospital, Kohima, in collaboration with Plastic Surgery Foundation, Mumbai, and Association of Surgeons of Nagaland, an update stated.


The purpose of the conference was to create awareness regarding the basics and scopes of this diverse surgical speciality amongst the surgeons, and general medical fraternity, and to enhance the quality of patient care in the state.


On faculty were notable renowned national & regional Plastic surgeons – Dr. Amresh S Baliarsing (Bombay Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital and Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai), Dr. Nilesh G Satbhai (Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai), Prof. Dr. Dushyant Jaiswal (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai), Prof. Dr. Akoijam Ibohal Singh (RIMS, Imphal, Manipur), Dr. Choden Norbu (STNM Hospital, Gangtok Sikkim), Dr. Badamutlang Dympep (NEIGRIHMS, Shillong) and Dr. Nehar Sinam (RIMS, Imphal).

The scientific content focussed on a wide range of applications of plastic surgery in general surgery, trauma, pressure sores, birth anomalies, chronic ulcers, cancer surgery and aesthetics.


The live surgery workshop was conducted at Putuonuo Hospital, adhering to the National Medical Commission guidelines, with approval by the Nagaland State NMC, providing 100% free of cost surgery and treatment (all inclusive) for all eight operated patients.


An overwhelming response of 85 registrations (81 and 71 participants on day one and day two, respectively), from 28 hospitals and medical centres across the state (Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Peren) as well as Guwahati participated, making the conference a significant first of its kind.


In attendance were surgeons across all specialities, orthopaedic surgeons, paediatrics, ENT specialists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, medical specialities, MBBS medical officers and surgical trainees, the update added.
