State-wide sports outreach for voters education
Campaign launch on a state-level systematic voters education and electoral participation (SVEEP) action plan for Nagaland for 2023-2024.
DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner and district election officer of Tseminyu, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, informed that the state government has launched a state-level systematic voters education and electoral participation (SVEEP) action plan for Nagaland for 2023-2024.
As part of the initiative, he stated that the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Nagaland, in collaboration with Nagaland Sports Association, would organise a state-wide outreach programme through sports, stated a DIPR report.
The programme included a two-day free football coaching event by certified coaches for 100 participants in Tseminyu district. Additionally, an exhibition match has been scheduled on the second day to promote voter awareness and registration among youth.
He has encouraged the higher secondary schools, both government and private, to nominate students for participation by September 12. The event is slated on September 14 and 15 at the Rengma Sports Association (RSA) ground in Tseminyu Old Town.
Clean Tuensang campaign
In a related programme, systematic voters education and electoral participation (SVEEP) ‘Clean Tuensang Campaign’ was conducted at Astro-turf ground, Zero Point in Tuensang town on August 11.
The campaign was organised by the district administration in partnership with Tuensang Town Council and the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) with an aim to engage students in voter education.
The deputy commissioner and district election officer of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, expressed gratitude to the participating students and encouraged them to enrol in the electoral roll once they reach the age of 18 years. She has emphasised the importance of the electoral photo identity card (EPIC) and sought responsible citizenship through cleanliness.
The programme included speeches by various participants and concluded with a town cleaning activity carried out by students from different schools.
