Dimapur, Jan. 25: The Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) formed by five tribe organisations to oppose the conduct of elections to urban local bodies with 33% seat reservation for women has informed that the proposed state-wide bandh would be imposed from January 28 next, and not January 27 as suggested earlier.
Addressing a news conference on Wednesday night, convener of the JCC, Supu Jamir told reporters that the committee had decided to postpone the agitation by a day, at the request of chief minister TR Zeliang. The chief minister had invited JCC members to a meeting at Kohima on Wednesday.
According to Supu, the chief minister told the JCC delegation that he would be calling for a cabinet meeting on January 27 to “consider our demand”. The JCC has been demanding the state government to postpone the ULB elections in Nagaland.Supu informed that the JCC members, in a meeting held later in the evening at Dimapur, had decided to “honour the request” of the chief minister. “The JCC is of the view that the chief minister and his colleagues will accordingly honour and consider our demand.”
He also informed that the JCC had constituted Dimapur Naga Youth Front – comprising members of all tribe youth forums – to supervise the proposed JCC bandh at Dimapur from January 28 to February 1.
