State TT championship underway

The XXI Nagaland Table Tennis Championship got underway on Wednesday at Indoor Stadium, Kohima with Merentoshi Jamir, Minister for Youth Resources & Sports as the chief guest. Players from Dimapur, Kohima, Peren and Mokokchung are competing in the 3-day tournament.Addressing the sportsperson at the inaugural function, Merentoshi Jamir said sportspersons need to build the spirit of competitiveness and should have the urge to play without compromising the spirit of sportsmanship.
The minister reminded that sportspersons should concentrate with the games that reflect the structure of the game and emphasize more on those games. He also asserted that players should appreciate their coaches for the pains caused for the players, shaping and molding them into professionals in sports.
The chief guest also disclosed the plan project of the department to provide one TT table in every village across the state once the financial position gets better.
He said opportunity should be given to those people at the rural areas with the hope that professional players can be produced in TT game. President Nagaland Badminton Association K. Kire, officials from the department of youth resource, students from various schools attended the inaugural function.
