Dimapur, Sep 8 (EMN): Commemorating the World Ozone Day on September 16, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), a State Nodal Agency of the National Green Corps (Eco Club) Programme, has announced to organise a slogan and painting competitions on the theme ‘Caring for all life under the sun’ for school students in the age group of 13-17 years.
The United Nations General Assembly on January 23, 1995, adopted resolution 49/114 which proclaimed September 16 as the World Ozone Day commemorating the date on which Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer was signed in 1987. The World Ozone Day offers an opportunity to focus global attention and action on vital environmental issues. The year 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol.
Stating this in a press release, Rusovil John, Member Secretary & State Nodal Officer of National Green Corps Programme, stated that the participating students will become the “Ozone Heroes” for spreading the awareness on ozone layer protection and its environmental benefits.
The best entry in each category from each school should be submitted to the Nagaland Pollution Control Board. The best entry of painting and slogan received from all the schools in the State will then be evaluated and finalised by a panel of judges. The regional office of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change handling the State will evaluate and finalise the winners.
The three winners in different categories from each State/Union Territory will be awarded Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 5,000 along with certificate respectively. Two consolation winners will also be given Rs 2,000 along with certificate each.
