State Masters Open Badminton Championship underway
DIMAPUR — The 45th Nagaland State Masters Open Badminton Championship 2023 and Nagaland Badminton Association golden jubilee commemoration kicked off on Thursday at Dimapur Badminton Club Indoor Stadium.
Dimapur District Badminton Association is hosting the three-day event.
The event will feature teams from 11 districts as well as the Nagaland Police, totaling 118 teams. The tournament categories are 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, and 60+ for both men’s singles and doubles, with a total prize money of INR 8.52 lakh for the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, the special guest for the inaugural session, Zasivikho Zakiesato, mentioned that badminton is one of the games that suit Nagas’ physical structure.
He noted how Asians are known for dominating on the world stage when it comes to badminton and urged the players to make it a commitment to promote the game to produce champions from the state.
