State Level Indigenous Wrestling Competition to be held in Senapati

Dimapur, Sep. 20 (EMN): The much-awaited sporting extravaganza, the State Level Indigenous Open Wrestling Competition, will be held at Senapati (Tahamzam) Mini Stadium, Manipur from Sep. 25 – 28th where more than hundred wrestlers both from Manipur and other states will participate for the championship title. A total of INR 5,20,000 will be given away as prizes to the winners.

The event will be organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association and hosted by Viewland Veteran Club.

According to the organisers, 83 wrestlers from Manipur have registered so far. More than 20 wrestlers from Nagaland and other states are also expected to participate. This time round, the competition will be judged by well-known traditional wrestling champions from Nagaland viz. Vekhriyi Chuzho, Suhroneyi Shoho, Visevo Zashumo, Keneingulie Nagi, Kope Kronu and Zehoto Kikhi. All the Naga wrestlers, who will judge the competition, are well-known wrestlers who have won the many wrestling championships held in Nagaland state.

The organisers also informed that a host of dignitaries from the Manipur state government and others will grace and witness the competition. Prominent among them are the Manipur Dy. Chief Minister, Y Joykumar Singh; Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs, Manipur, Letpao Haokip; Minister TD and Hills,  N. Kayisii; Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) President, Neivikolie Khatsii; All Manipur Traditional Belt Wrestling Association (AMTBWA) Secretary, Ch. Ibohal Singh, and others.

There competition will be held in two categories: heavyweight (above 65 kg) and lightweight (below 65 kg). The prize money for both the categories will be: 1st prize: INR 1,00,000; 2nd prize: INR 70,000; 3rd prize: INR 50,000; 4th prize: INR 30,000. A consolation prize of INR 5,000 will also be given to four wrestlers from both the categories, the organisers stated.
