State-level FDP underway at Dimapur Government College

DIMAPUR — A one-week state-level faculty development programme (FDP) on the theme, “Envisioning learning spectrum” got underway at Dimapur Government College (DGC) on November 7.

The programme is being organised by NAAC steering committee and Research and Development Cell of DGC, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, in association with Bank of Baroda, Dimapur, and supported by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of DGC.

An update from DGC stated that the FDP is being conducted both online and offline mode.

The additional director of NIELIT and resource person, Daniel Meren, spoke on ‘Artificial Intelligence tools in teaching learning’ in the first session. He focused his talk on different aspects and tools that could be used in educational settings to improve efficiency and engagement and also that has the potential to transform educational approaches.

In the second session, Lezo Putsure, founder CEO of Educentre School of Business, Dimapur, spoke on ‘Entrepreneurship’ and shared his experiences on how to think like an entrepreneur by viewing every problem as a great opportunity. Pointing out that there is no dearth of avenues, he stressed the role of educators to help and guide the younger generation towards entrepreneurship and not to only depend on government jobs.

On day two, Dr. I Wati Imchen, principal of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, was the resource person. He spoke on ‘Career progression in higher education,’ wherein he underscored the promising nature of the profession in higher education for those who are dedicated and committed.

He highlighted on how to navigate the challenges in the changing educational landscape, tips to navigate the process and reminded everyone of the code of professional ethics.

Prof. Shiv Shankar Das, senior manager of NPTEL & BS Programme Office, IIT, Madras, was resource person of the fourth session. Speaking on ‘SWAYAM NPTEL awareness,’ Prof. Das pointed out how SWAYAM-NPTEL, an initiative of the MoE, Government of India, following the MOOCs format provides online courses.

Pointing out the benefits of NPTEL courses, he mentioned various NPTEL initiatives and how to enroll for certification.

The report stated that each session of the FDP concluded with question and answer time where the participants got to discuss the topic and their queries, if any.

It informed that the remaining sessions of FDP would be continued next week with various other resource persons.
