- DIMAPUR — The
Directorate of Information Technology and Communication on Tuesday commemorated
“Safer Internet Day” by organising a state-level awareness workshop on under
the global theme “Together for a better Internet” in Kohima.
- Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner and secretary of
Information Technology and Communication, Mohammed Ali Shihab, informed that
the event was organised to create awareness about cyber hygiene by taking
correct measures to protect and ensure a safer usage of internet. He pointed
out that many take to their mobiles phones during leisure time as there are
limited recreation facilities and reasoned that this has led the state to high
usage of internet in comparison to other states in the country.
- He called upon all the participants to spread the awareness
about cyber hygiene, online safety practices and the responsibility use of the
internet in any platform so that the public are not cheated or face treats as
the internet has now become an essential item for everyone, a DIPR report
stated.
- The state informatics officer at NIC, I Lanusangkum Aier, in
his introductory address, shared that information are made available today
through the public domain which could be informative, destructive, healthy or
addictive. He has sought cautious use of the facility.
- Also highlighting about the frauds and scams through
internet, he called upon all to use the internet judicially, safely with
responsibility so that they are not affected.
- In his welcome address, the director of Information
Technology and communication, Sabou Yashu, said that the Safer Internet Day is
observed worldwide on the second Tuesday of every February to raise awareness,
promote safe and responsible use of internet, which is maintained by the
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. He asked all the HODs to
take the programme seriously and become ambassadors to create awareness on
safety measures on the use of internet.
- A powerpoint presentation on “Information security education
and awareness (ISEA) project” was made by the director of NIC (IT), Swedevenuo
Natso.

- NIC Kohima: Commemorating Safer Internet Day, the NIC Kohima
district centre under the ISEA project organised an awareness workshop at the
deputy commissioner's office.
- Speaking at the event, the additional deputy commissioner
(ADC) of Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori, emphasised the importance of responsible
internet usage, especially within government offices. He highlighted the risks
associated with negligence, which could compromise entire office systems and
urged employees to adhere to cyber security protocols.
- He also reminded the participants that NIC internet usage is
monitored by the Cyber Security Cell, India, and stressed the importance of
installing antivirus software.
- During the workshop, NIC Kohima made a powerpoint
presentation to educate participants on various aspects of cyber safety. The
session covered key topics such as common cyber threats and their impact, cyber
hygiene practices to minimise risks, human errors that could lead to security
breaches, best practices for a safer online experience, reporting mechanisms
for cybercrime and others.

- NIC Mokokchung: NIC Mokokchung district centre celebrated
Safer Internet Day at the DC’s conference hall on Tuesday.
- During the programme, NIC Mokokchung team highlighted the
importance of utilising internet safely and gave insights on cyber crime like
fraudulent emails, SMS and voice phishing. They also encouraged making use of
helpline number 1930 and www.cybercrime.gov.in to file for complaints.
- The programme was chaired by Lanusenla Longkumer, principal
of ICIT, Mokokchung, followed by introductory remarks by Temsuwathi, senior
director (IT) of NIC, Mokokchung, and a short speech by Temsuchuba, SDO Civil,
Mokokchung.
