State Jails undertake Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): Directorate of Prisons and all the prisons in Nagaland embarked upon a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Kohima and in all the jails in Nagaland on April 29.
Director General of Prisons, all staff and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Brand Ambassadors participated in the efforts in Kohima. Kohima DEF personnel also participated by providing security and manpower.

The highlight of the programme was the participation of prison inmates in Swacch Bharat Mission. The inmates of the District Jail Kohima were also allowed and encouraged to participate in the cleaning outside the jail premises in the Prison Directorate.

About 20 prisons inmates undertook the exercise outside the jail premises, while others were engaged in the effort within the jail. In all other jails, the inmates and staff actively engaged themselves in the campaign by cleaning the jail premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupin Sharma, DG Prisons, CD & HG, highlighted on the Swacch Bharat Mission and its importance and exhorted the inmates to keep the premises clean and participate with fervour.

Swacch Bharat Ambassadors, Hokugha Chishi, Vizopal Chaya, S Supongmeren Jamir and T Khongo were present throughout the entire programme.

Speaking about the Mission, on behalf of all other Brand Ambassadors, S Supongmeren Jamir said since Swacch Bharat is primarily to keep the environment clean, prisoners should also try to cleanse their minds and hearts and channelise their energies in a positive direction. He also asked the inmates to take the opportunity to reform themselves and become productive components of the society.

On the occasion, keeping in line with the recent government’s decision to ban/ remove the red beacon, the VIP light on the official vehicle of DG Prisons CD & HG was also removed. The vehicle beacon was removed by a prison inmate and handed over to Vizopal Chaya.

Meanwhile, Prison Directorate thanked everyone who participated in the programme including inmates, staff of the entire Prisons department and jails, DEF Kohima, NAP and brand ambassadors and making the occasion a successful event.
