State hosts NE workshop on family planning

Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): Nagaland hosted an annual regional ‘review workshop’ on family planning for northeastern states on Dec. 20 at Hotel Vivor in Kohima.
Welcoming the representatives from the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Nagaland, mission director of National Health Mission, Nagaland, Dr. Limaakum called upon the representatives to take the opportunity and clarify problems and seek for solution from officials of GOI.
The commissioner & secretary of Health & Family Welfare R Ramakrishnan gave the keynote address. The official stressed on the need and importance of roping in all stakeholders especially the churches and creates enough awareness among the people through all possible platforms. He also requested the representatives clarify their doubts.
Also, the deputy commissioner at the ministry of Family Planning Dr. SK Sikdar mentioned “the government of India has a soft corner for the Northeastern state as a result of which Look East policy has been implemented.” He said that the main focus of the central government was on the mother and child which the officer said was a concern for all Indians. Dr. Sikdar also gave a presentation on the scenario of family planning programme of the states present for the meet.
Quality aspects in family planning, FP logistic management information system, expanded contraceptive basket, family planning opportunities in post pregnancy, monitoring and data reporting and HMIS were other topics discussed by the FP division, GOI during the meeting. Discussions and feedbacks were undertaken on the various agendas and issues.
