State Home Minister Y Patton has said that the government on its part will do whatever it can within its disposal to protect the life and properties of all its citizens affected by the recent conflict. District administration is directed to take with all necessary measures to curtail all kinds of attempt by anti social elements to flare up the situations and is on the job, he stated. “I appeal to the villages who are engrossed with the present conflict to resolve the matter amicably. Further I also appeal to the citizens of Tuensang district not to make the present crises as a clash between the communities/tribes and at the same time appeal the civil societies and all like- minded people to intervene so as to restore normalcy,” appealed the State Home minister.
He then expressed that it is a matter of great concern that the misunderstanding between the two villages in Tuensang district have sparked like wild fire. He stated that the turn of events which has taken place so far is unfortunate and which was actually avoidable. According to the Home minister, the Nagas by tradition are peace loving people and we are known for resolving our differences through negotiations and peaceful means. “It is also a fact that we come from a generation where dominance of one village by another village is prominent throughout the ages as we take pride of dominating each other because of the fact that we live in a world where no external forces conquer us in the past,” he stated. “As a matter of fact, we take pride in upholding the village republic which is an independent nation in our context. However, with the change of time the world has become a global village and we also need to move along with the advancement of the world community,” he added.
Naga Hoho expresses anguish
The Naga Hoho said it is very much saddened and disturbed by the recent killings and the continuous uneasy atmosphere surrounding one of the oldest town in Nagaland, known to the rest of the world for its vibrant unity displayed by our fore fathers in the past. While condemning for the killings and confiscation of arms in the custody of the civilians, the Naga Hoho appealed to all the communities involved to kindly restrain from violence since it won’t deliver any positive result, meaningful dialogue should be embraced by all the communities involved for which the Naga Hoho anticipates the administration and law enforcing agencies to put in more efforts despite their best till date.
“The Nagas share and extend our deepest sympathy and solidarity with the near and dear ones of the bereaved families. We are remembering you in our prayers that God will grant you solace and wisdom at this time of grief. May the departed souls rest in heavenly peace” it added.
NSF concern over Tuensang clashes
The Naga Student’s Federation (NSF) has expressed ‘concern’ over the recent incidents in Tuensang district which has caused loss of precious lives and left the entire populace unrest and agonized.
The federation in a release issued by president Tongpang Ozukum and assistant general secretary Christopher Ltu maintained that such violence will have far reaching consequences if serious measure are not taken into account to amicably resolve through the spirit of brotherhood.
Therefore, the Federation earnestly appealed to the conflicting villages, prominent leaders and churches of the effected two villages to shun violence and try to amicably resolve the issues in true Christian spirit.
The NSF also urged upon the people of Tuensang district to maintain utmost restraint so as not to escalate issue but continue to work for peace and harmony among the people of the district.
