[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he ‘all-round’ woes of citizens and professionals alike in Nagaland continue. Adding to the increasing grievances of the common people is the plight of Hindi teachers who have not been paid their monthly salaries for 6 months. While the Nagaland government keeps asserting that the salaries would be release ‘as soon as the central government releases the funds,’ the center has already sanctioned the money, the teachers disclosed.
The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers’ Union (ANHTU) has issued yet another statement highlighting their grievances that the teachers must be paid what belongs to them. The union has suggested that the Nagaland departments are keeping the money.“The salaries of the 1, 379 Hindi teachers appointed under CSS (2012-2013) have been kept pending for 6 months. The aggrieved teachers, therefore, have been facing many difficulties regarding their finances in meeting their daily needs,” the union stated in the press release. It was disclosed that on July 23, 2014 the parliamentary secretary assured the ANHTU and the Hindi teachers that “as soon as the fund is released from government of India, all the pending salaries and past arrears will be paid to 1, 379 Hindi teachers (2012-13 Batch).”
Beside, the union stated, two agreements were made between the teachers and the department of School Education, including the parliament secretary and the ANHTU, for early disbursal of the pending salaries and past arrears, on November 23. The agreements were followed by another agreement on November 25 involving the Commissioner and Secretary for School Education, the director and the departmental authorities of School Education, finance secretary to the government of Nagaland, ANHTU and the Hindi teachers, that the pending salaries would be released on or before January 31, 2015.
“But no solution has been brought upon the aggrieved teachers till now, which made the aggrieved Hindi teachers’ livelihood effected up to its maximum level. The Government of India had already sanctioned the fund for the salaries of 1, 379 Hindi teachers appointed under CSS up to March 2015,” the union disclosed.
“It has also come to light that, even if the central government sanctions the fund timely to the state, the government of Nagaland and the department always delays in releasing the salaries to the teachers and therefore resulting in delay of the next sanction from the GOI, due to the late submission of utilization certificate from the state government,” the union stated.
The All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union questions The Govt. of Nagaland and the Department of School Education, Nagaland, if the Central Government has already released the fund and yet the salaries are kept pending, then why is the Department making the employees suffer, and what is the Department doing with the fund?
The ANHTU has requested the department to immediately fulfils the demands as per the previous agreements and release the pending salaries and the past arrears of the Hindi teachers appointed under CSS (2012-2013) to ease their desperation and growing financial constraints.
