Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN): A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government, represented by the director of Agriculture, and the Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), Mumbai, represented by CEO of GAVL, at the Directorate of Agriculture on January 9.

The MoU was in relation to the development and area expansion under oil palm cultivation and processing for Zone-I, which constitutes Peren, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland and Wokha districts, under the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), an update informed.

GAVL is the largest developer in oil palm business in India managing about 60,000 hectare and 6 palm oil mills and is also the only company operating a mill in North East India since 2014.

Besides Nagaland, the company has also signed MoUs for oil palm in the Northeastern states of Mizoram, Assam, Manipur and Tripura.

On a special request made by the director of Agriculture, the company agreed to buy existing fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) from existing plants from 2023 onwards. The CEO of GAVL was said to be impressed by the existing infrastructure and potential of oil palm development in the state, it stated.
