Dimapur, May 25: An inter-school and college competition of the Dimapur Municipal Council’s (DMC) ‘A better Dimapur’ project was held on Sat. May 25 at the Holy Cross auditorium in Dimapur.
The competition was held for school and college students. For the schools, a painting competition was conducted on the topic ‘Save the environment,’ essay competition on the topic ‘How to combat air pollution,’ and a presentation on the topic ‘Tackling plastic waste in Dimapur.’
For the colleges was a debate competition on the topic ‘Environment is more important than development.’
The administrator of the DMC, Moa Sangtam, said that the programme was initiated for the student community to make them focus on changing the mindset of the people and to educate the people on the hazardous conditions of the environment.
The event also commemorates the second anniversary of A Better Dimapur project, which was launched in June 1 2017.
Another competition was art ‘Waste to art,’ which conducted. In the college category St. John College bagged the first prize; represented by Chubaienla, Shunyei and Thengeo; the second prize went to SD Jain College, represented by Blessing Tikhir and Sharda Kumari.
In the school category, the first prize was bagged by Little Star hr. sr. school represented by Moamenla Walling, Pezaiweli Zeliang and Suliana Begum; the second prize was awarded to Ram Janaki hr. sr. school, represented by Anki Shah, Vicky Shah and Bikash Shah.
In the presentation, the first prize was awarded to Ruma Sharma of Little Star hr. sr. school; the second to Akansha Das of Holy Cross hr. sr. school.
The first prize for essay competition was awarded to Yugank Das of Holy Cross hr. sr. school and second to Anita Daimary of Kendriya Vidyalaya.
In the painting competition, the first prize was bagged by Sayan Paul of Kendriya Vidyalaya; and the second prize by Pursanen of Cornerstone hr. sr. school.
For the college debate competition, Bikash Das of Dimapur Government College won the ‘best debater’ prize for the Negative, and Rangtalak Pame of Dimapur Govt. College won the best debater for the Affirmative team.
The winners of first prize were awarded with cash of INR 5000 and second prize INR 2000 along with certificates.
