St. Joseph University organises webinar on professional ethics

St. Joseph University, Nagaland is a state private, Catholic research university located in Dimapur, Nagaland, India.

Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): St. Joseph University (SJU), Dimapur, in collaboration with the International Organisation Globethics (IOG), an international forum committed to ethics and higher education, organised a two-day international webinar on “Professional ethics and faculty enrichment” for professors of universities and other higher education institutions on July 14 and 15.

In the first session, Dr. J Dinakarlal, former professor of Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, and former director of IAPCHE, presented talk on “Teachers and values,” while in the second session, Dr. I Mohan Razu, consultant and research fellow at Acts Academy of Higher Education, Bangalore, spoke on “Challenges to campus life and peace”.

On the second day, Dr. Joseph Dunston, former vice-chancellor of St. Joseph University, Nagaland, spoke on “NEP 2020 and its impact on ethics and values in higher education.” It was followed by an interaction initiated by Arun Gladwin, an international trainer and motivational speaker and director of Vantage Academy, Nagercoil, an update from the university stated.

During the interaction, Christine Housel, strategic partnership and donor relations of Globethics.net, Geneva, outlined the ethical foundations of global partnerships.

The webinar concluded with a valedictory address delivered by Rev. Dr. Jose Nandhikkara, national director of Globethics.net India, while Rev. Sr. Dr. I Arockia Mary, dean and administration of St. Joseph University, Dimapur, proposed the vote of thanks.

Altogether, 463 persons including faculty of St. Joseph University, Dimapur, and others from higher educational institutions attended the webinar.

On July 13, the English department of St. Joseph University organised a guest lecture on ‘Existentialism in literature’ with Dr. Salikyu, assistant professor of North East Council University (NECU), Dimapur, as the speaker. The speaker deliberated on man’s quest for meaning or purpose of life, about living and accepting mortality. He also highlighted the ultimate human condition and how to be an authentic original self. Besides, he shed light on the existentialist perspectives found among writers and philosophers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Friedrich Nietzsche, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Albert Camus.
