St. Joseph University organises marathon against cancer

DIMAPUR — With an objective to raise awareness on cancer, Education department of St. Joseph University (SJU) in Chümoukedima organised a marathon race on Saturday from 6:30 am to 8 am on the theme “Close the care gap: Together we challenge those in power.”

An update from the university stated that its public relations officer (PRO), Fr. Anish, invoked God’s blessings prior to flagging off of the marathon race by the controller of examination, Dr. S. Thiyagarajan.

It stated that the key focus of the marathon was on the wellbeing of people and society to assist in early detection, which is important in the management and also prevention by making necessary lifestyle changes.

The marathon race began from 7th Mile junction in Chümoukedima and culminated at the university gate. It stated that around 100 students participated in the race, wherein Kaikho Bonafice, 6th semester student of Commerce, won the first position, while Kaikho Maheo, a 2nd semester student of Mathematics, secured the second position and Hubeka K Yeptho, a 4th semester student of Political Science, secured the third position. It informed that the first 20 winners were awarded with certificates.

The event concluded with an exhortation on the importance of spreading awareness in the community by Sister Thaines, deputy registrar, and a vote of thanks delivered by Mughakali, assistant professor of Education.
