DIMAPUR — St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, conducted its 2-day freshers induction programme on August 23 and 24 at the college premises.

The deputy registrar, Rev. Sr. Thianes Mary DMI, delivered the welcome address on the first day, emphasising the importance of education. She said that life on campus will be colourful and full of activities that will aid students in learning, character development, leading a disciplined and compassionate life, and, most importantly, understanding the meaning of life.

Dr. S Thiyagarajan, COE, highlighted the NEP 2020 on the occasion, which includes many curricular and extracurricular activities with the main goal of making one a holistic candidate for society rather than just providing a degree. He encouraged the students to dream big and strive for greater things in the future.

Special guest Rev. Fr. Dr. Sabu Jose Joseph, principal, Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur, spoke on the importance of education, which he said is sacred and should be respected. He said that being educated entails being disciplined and exhorted the students to be regular, punctual, and serious.

Dr. K Sethupathy, registrar, delivered the welcome address on day 2. He said on the occasion that SJU is a beacon of knowledge and urged the students to make use of every opportunity.

Dr. D Gnanadurai, vice chancellor, delivered a special speech on the significance of the NEP and its provisions. He emphasised the importance of being a smart student rather than a student and encouraged students to participate in all activities.

The special guest for the occasion, Rev. Fr. Benny James, SDB province economer, acknowledged the success of Chandrayaan-3 and exhorted the students to achieve the impossible, move from their comfort zones, and do things that challenge them.

He stated that commitment, determination, and dedication can lead to success. He also stressed the importance of time management, being connected with one another, and seeking help from each other.

He concluded his speech by encouraging the students that their university days can make them truly humane and have a positive impact on society.
