The students debated on the question “Which is more important: Talent or Hard Work?” Sending a strong signal to her opponent, Ms Aosangla of BA 6th semester, who spoke in favour of talent as more important, claimed that “talent is the special ability that allows somebody to do something well” and that “talent prevails before hard works.” She maintained that talent cannot be acquired through practice. However, Ms Lanlia Jamir of BA 4th semester rebutted that “hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” She argued that talent doesn’t guarantee anything in this world sans hard work. Drawing examples from genius like Albert Einstein, she quipped that “the hardest worker in the room is always going to beat the talented guy, who doesn’t work hard.” Among others, Ms Akashi Jhimo of B.Sc 6th semester and Ms Vikili Ayemi of BA 2nd semester also spoke in favour of “hard work” as more important than “talent.” While Manngam Konyak of B.Sc. 4th semester and Nukusa of B.Sc. 2nd semester affirmed that “talent” beats “hard work.” Altogether, six students from each semester- both Science and Arts- participated in the debate competition. Ms Lanlia Jamir, Ms Aosangla and Ms Akashi Jhimo were adjudged the first, second and third winner respectively. The debate was moderated by Ms Sentijungla of BA 6th semester.
