IMPHAL, SEPTEMBER 23: The Saikot Sub-Division Demand Committee (SSDC) has submitted memoranda to the Manipur Chief Minister, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister and Revenue minister to upgrade the Saikot TD block to a full-fledged SDO office.
There is so much pressure from the general public of this newly upgraded SDO’s jurisdiction to launch some drastic form of agitation in the immediate future.
The chiefs and authority members within the jurisdiction of Saikot SDO Office in its general body meeting on September 22 decided to go ahead with agitation unless the government of Manipur assures the public that the SDO Office with full staff headed by SDO not lower than the rank of MCS Officer will be certainly made operational till October 11, according to a memorandum of SSDC).
The Demand Committee of Saikot Sub-Division Office has no other option but to inform the Chief Minister that the common people are ready to organize agitation and go any length until the demand is met. It also urged to consider the legitimacy and urgency of the matter and take required action in order to avoid a situation which may turn out of hand.
In order to avoid the likely fall out of such agitation, we once again plead with you to immediately take necessary action to the realization of the aspiration of the denizens within the jurisdiction of Saikot SDO Office, it added.
On the other hand, the Flood Victims Demand Committee(FVDC), Chandel warned to impose Economic Blockade along the National Highways and District highways connecting Imphal-Moreh Route, Chandel district headquarter road and Chakpikarong road from September 25 midnight.
A decision has been taken in this regard after the concerned state authority failed to pay attention to the grievances of the flood victims, in a joint meeting held at Indoor stadium Chandel district headquarters, about 75 km south of Imphal on Friday, according to a press release issued by FVDC’s Convenor BD Betha and Secretary TS Caleb.
The meeting also decided to intensify agitation by shutting down all the business, institutions and government offices in the district if the State government fails to release relief fund and provides compensation to the Flood victims of the District at the earliest, it said.
Urging everyone to extend maximum cooperation to the flood victims it also maintained that it will not held responsible for any untoward incident during the course of their agitations.
