THE Nagaland SSA Teachers Association (NSSATA) while deciding to resume its classes from tomorrow today served 15-days ultimatum to state government for release of the pending salaries of 2730 SSA teachers in the state.
The decision was taken in today’s meeting of the Association at APO Hall Kohima, which was attended by over 1500 aggrieved SSA teachers from all over the state. After the meeting, the SSA teachers also staged silent procession starting from Phoolbari till Raj Bhavan carrying placards, some of which read “Forcing to work without salary is slavery”, “We will no longer stay mute to your lackluster attitude”, “We are appointed to teach not to be starved”, “Students are waiting for us”, “Salary! Salary! Where is our salary?” etc.
Meanwhile, submitting the ultimatum letter to the state Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar in the afternoon, the NSSATA said “due to the failure of the state government and its implementing agencies to comply with the demands of the NSSATA despite several appeal and memorandum submitted and also on failure to our decent and civilized approach towards the competent authorities, the NSSATA gives rthe government 15 days w.e.f. from today to fulfill its demands, failing which the association will be forced to take up its own course of action.
The NSSATA also warned that further steps or course of action would not be notified, but the state government and its implementing agencies will be solely held responsible for any untoward incident arising out of it.
It may be recalled that, NSSATA had launched strike in the form of boycotting classes since March 10, 2014 demanding early release of their pending salaries from November 2013 till date. They had even staged sit-in-dharna outside the entrance gate of Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 20.
On the other the State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio replying to the Opposition Congress queries during the Assembly said that funds have not been released by the Central Government.
