Spring Badminton Championship culminates at Ungma

Mokokchung, March 18 (EMN):
The three-day Spring Badminton Championship organised by Soyim Shuttlers culminated at Bapu Tzubo Amphitheatre at Ungma village in Mokokchung district on March 17.

The championship was held under the aegis of Mokokchung District Badminton Association.

Moatoshi Tzudir, member of NDPP, was the honoured guest at the event. Tzudir in his address stated that the state government was ‘doing so much’ for the uplift of the youths through sports.

“A big and developed village like Ungma can channelise and bridge the gap between the state and Centre in meeting the aspirations of the youths, which will benefit the district as well as the state,” he said.

He also asserted that ‘sports not only helps to learn new things but it also assists in building confidence, developing personalities and also maintaining mental and physical balance’.

He further asserted that teamwork, coordination and importance of physical activities were some of the virtues that could be incarnated through sports.     

Meanwhile, in the 45+ men’s double category, the duo S Bendang Imchen and Temsuyanger beat Bendangnochet and Nokzenketba  by 21-18;14-21;20-22 in the finals.

 In the 35+ men’s doubles, Temsuyanger and Dr. Sashimatsun defeated Imomar and Imnayanger by 21-11;21-11. In the men’s double category, the junior pair Lanuakum and Temjen triumphed over its senior pair Imliakum and Imomar by 21-12; 21-19. The winners and runner-ups received cash prizes along with certificates.
