Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): Spotify users can now download their favourite playlists, albums, and podcasts directly on their Apple Watch, the company announced on Friday.

The new feature will only be available for its Premium users and it will enable users to finally experience true offline playback without the need to have an iPhone nearby. The new update will enable users to stream audio in 96kbps, add and delete their music library and use Siri support on Apple Watch to control playback.

According to Spotify, “Being able to download music and podcasts complements the existing feature of being able to stream* your favourites from the watch, and now you don’t even have to take your phone with you. It’s perfect for that next run, or for keeping both hands focused while you’re cooking. Leave your phone behind and still stay connected to the music and podcasts you love.”

How to download Spotify music playlists and podcasts to Apple Watch for offline use?

Here is how Spotify Premium users can download their favourite music playlists and podcasts directly on their Apple watch:

  • First, search and find the music or podcast you want to download.
  • Select the music or podcast and then tap on the three-dots button.
  • Tap on “Download to Apple Watch.”
  • Go to the Downloads section. Once your selected playlists, albums, or podcasts in your library is downloaded, a little green arrow appears next to their names.
  • Now you can leave your phone and start listening to your favourite audio content directly from your Apple Watch.

The news comes after Spotify had announced a similar feature on Tuesday for Google’s Wear devices. The offline music download option is currently not available on Google’s Wear devices.

Spotify‘s offline music download feature will be available starting Friday on Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with WatchOS 7.1 and up recommended. Note that this new feature is only available for its Premium users. For Indian users, Spotify is offering four different Premium plans — Premium Family at INR 199 per month, Premium Individual at INR 129 per month, Premium Duo at INR 165 per month and Premium Student at INR 66 per month.
